| Juanita Village is a brand new European-style pedestrian oriented village with various types of shops, restaurants, boutiques and a proposed specialty market, surrounded by a diverse variety of housing including lofts, town homes, studios and flats. The various retail uses and types of housing have been placed on the site in a complimentary framework of tree-lined sidewalks, bike lanes, and lush landscaping. Public gathering places with decorative landscaping, fountains, gardens, and public art are planned for eight special spaces within the village and these will compliment the sidewalk cafes and other neighborhood supportive retailers. The design of the village has focused on creating diversity of building scale and texture, and has utilized varying roof lines and vertically varied exterior elements within the facades to create the effect of dozens of buildings with European style character and charm. The Main Street, or heart of the development, creates a comfortable, cozy scale, where cafes and bistros spill-out onto the widened tree-lined sidewalks, and where people from the surrounding neighborhoods can relax and enjoy the experience of the traditional village from the landscaped plazas. The residents of the village and the residents from neighboring communities can walk or ride their bikes to do daily errands within the village. Such errands include picking up coffee from a coffee shop and fresh bread from a bakery, as well as groceries and pharmaceuticals from the specialty market and from the drug store, which will exist within the village. In addition, people can stop by the barbershop or hair-and- nails salon for a touch-up, or bring the family in for a pizza in the evening. Residents of Chelsea are able to walk through the village on their way to the Juanita Beach Park or Juanita Bay Park, possibly picking up an ice cream cone or a rental movie on their way back home. Housing within the village is diverse, offering several floorplans choices, which are perfect for retirees seeking a seniors friendly, controlled access living environment. A high-tech broadband wiring package is included in the village allowing for convenient low-hassle communications via the Internet as well as a village intranet. There are six means of ingress and egress from the village for auto-traffic as well as a significant number of bus stops along the wide tree-lined sidewalks for Village residents and visitors who will be encouraged to utilize public transit. Bike lanes are also being added along the major streets to encourage alternative means of travel. |
